Support group

Tonight Sloan and I were able to attend the last juvenile diabetes support group of the season before summer break. It was very informative as always. They do a really nice job of these meetings and always have fun crafts for the kids to do.
Today in the car Zoe and I had a discussion about how Sloan has diabetes, but she doesn't. Zoe is constantly saying she feels shaky, or she needs her shots. When Sloan takes her shots, Zoe will take the lid off the insulin pen and pretend to give herself a shot in the belly "Just like Sissy". When she tells us "I'm shaky" Dean and I kind of laugh but it is fascinating, as little as Zoe is she is very in tune to Sloan and her Diabetes. I have tested Zoe' sugar two different times because I just wanted to make sure she had normal levels, and her pediatrician suggested it. Her sugar was normal both times. Zoe was so excited to test her sugar, and didn't cry or flinch when we pricked her finger. I actually caught her two different times in the process of testing her sugar with Sloan's kit.I had to talk to Zoe about how she didn't need to test her sugar, she assured me I was wrong. I had to talk to Sloan about putting her tester up so Zoe or Aris wouldn't get hurt. Zoe looks up to her sister soooo much. I love my girls. I hope some day Sloan won't have to worry about shot's and tests and highs and lows. Someday they will find a cure. I hope it is sooner than later.

Mr. Y!

Mr. Y this ones for you! Happy birthday star wars! Oh by the way, its 31 years this year.

Oh my! How awesome! My favorite art teacher Mr. Y just posted a comment on my blog. Mr. Y is the reason I went into art. He was my high school art teacher. One of those teachers they make movies about because they inspire students to think outside the box and in a gentle way encourage you to dream a little bigger, and believe in yourself. I come from a long line of "Sloan kids" to take art from Mr. Y. My brother Isaac, sister Cristin and I all took his art classes. Brennan will start art with him next year and she can't wait.

Mr. Y has an amazing wife and I think 5 amazing kids. Oh did I mention he is an avid Star Wars fan? Mr. Y I still have that giant Yoda cut out I need to send your way. There are so many friends that I went to art classes with and they went on to go to art schools and pursue fields in the arts. I know all would agree that Mr. Y was an intricate part of their learning process, and without his encouragement they might have chosen a different field.

I look forward to getting those links for the art sites from you and thanks for your encouragement on the new stuff I have been working on. Mr. Y thanks for being such an inspiration to me and my family and to all the other students that you have inspired along the way. The world could use more teachers like you.

A Sneek Peek

This was my first attempt at making doll clothes. I went to Joann's fabric store and purchased some vintage reprint patterns for doll clothes. The pattern I chose to use was for a romper but I thought it was to plain and modified it into a swimsuit complete with ruffle on the bum. The first on I did was smaller than the other three. It is for Zoe' soft bodied Madam Alexander doll. The other three are for American Girl dolls. The first one took me almost 4 hours to make. The other three I finished in almost 3 hours. So how do I feel about the whole process? Well, it was fun and I will do it again. However it is very time consuming to make these tiny little outfits. Hopefully the little girls will all have a blast playing with these for years to come. I would do another doll clothes swap again. I will take a picture of all the finished swimsuits tonight and post it tomorrow. I am off to watch a movie. Goodnight all!

Take a warm and toasty bath. It was a super fun day. I couldn't have asked for a better day or a better weekend. We had so much fun at the pig roast, birthday party and at Carla and Davids reception. The warm and toasty bath was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
